Project MENTBEST Kicks-off in Spain

Proyecto MENTBEST

On Monday, 8th April, the first community meeting was held to plan the implementation of the MENTBEST project in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Catalunya, Spain. The project is Spain is led by Dr. Benedikt Amann from Hospital del Mar Barcelona.

To kick off the project, a meeting has been held with all the agents and institutions that have an impact on the community and, therefore, on the mental health of the residents of Santa Coloma. A wide range of representatives from many different organisations and institutions came to the meeting, with the attendance of 33 people at all, including general healthcare and mental health, the Catalan police, associations for young people, families of those with mental health difficulties, institutions working with the long-term unemployed, the local city hall, and pharmacists. At this meeting, the ways in which the project can be integrated into the resources and networks already existing in the area have been discussed, and the needs of the different entities involved, such as those working with young people, people with mental health problems, or the long-term unemployed and the police, among others, identified. There was really valuable feedback and ideas regarding the specific needs of Santa Coloma de Gramenet and to begin an alliance with the different organisations, to start preparing this community project ready for its launch later in the year.

The MENTBEST project comes to Santa Coloma to build, from the community, an effective intervention and prevention programme connected to the concerns of its citizens.
