Priests in Thessaloniki Trained on Depression Awareness Through MENTBEST and the European Alliance Against Depression

Mentbest and the Alliance against Depression

Mentbest and the Alliance against Depression were presented Thursday, October 30, 2025, in the function hall of the Holy Metropolis of Thessaloniki, as part as a priestly meeting trained by the doctor priest, who was part of the trainers team and has a PhD in Psychology, for the priests attending (90 people) on the topic of our project.

After the presentation of the topic by the Metropolitan Bishop of Thessaloniki, Mr. Filotheo followed the instructions of Archimandrite p. Chrysostomou Tymba, doctor and mental health counselor, and the First Presbyter b. Dimitriou Tanos, doctor, cardiologist, of both clergy of the Holy Metropolis. During the meeting was also presented the website ifightdepression.com in which everyone interested can find material related to the topic, and an informational brochure on depression was distributed to all participants at the end.

One of the goals of Mentbest in Greece is the active participation of priests in the prevention and treatment of depression, beginning with the adoption of best practices in the pastoral approach of the faithful on behalf of clergy and an opportunity to support the mental health of many sisters. The European Program is implemented in the Greek city by City College with the purpose to inform the citizens of the Municipality of Thessaloniki about depression and issues related to it, such as prevention, early symptoms and ways to cope with it.
