Estonian-Swedish Mental Health and Suicidology Institute (ERSI)

Since 2000 the Estonian-Swedish Mental Health and Suicidology Institute is one of the research groups of the Estonian Centre of Behavioural and Health Sciences. Since 1993, ERSI is collaborating institution to the National Prevention of Suicide and Mental Ill-Health (NASP) at Karolinska Institute; WHO Lead Collaborating Centre of Mental Health Problems and Suicide Across Europe.

Peeter Värnik ERSI

Peeter Värnik

Senior Researcher
Board member and senior researcher of ERSI, board member of Nõmme Health Clinic. Member of International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP), member of Estonian Demographic Association. Educational background in management and international economy (master’s degree cum laude 1994, Tallinn Technical University) and demography (PhD 2015, Tallinn University). Involved in several international projects on suicide prevention, mental health promotion and epidemiology of injury deaths (FP7 WE-STAY, FP7 OSPI-Europe, FP7 SEYLE, EAAD, MHPHands, SUPREME, PREDI-NU etc). Author of numerous high-level thematic scientific publications.

Airi Värnik ERSI

Psychiatrist, founder, principal investigator and board member of ERSI since 1993, professor emeritus of mental health at Tallinn University, full member of the International Academy of Suicide Research (IASR) since 2000, visiting professor at University of Tartu since 1998, visiting professor at Karolinska Institute (2003-2010), board member of Nõmme Health Clinic. Expert and principal investigator in several all-European intervention projects on suicide prevention and mental health promotion (FP7 ROAMER, FP7 WE-STAY, FP7 OSPI-Europe, FP7 SEYLE, EAAD, MHPHands, SUPREME, PREDI-NU etc). Author of numerous high-level thematic scientific publications.

Merike Sisask ERSI

Merike Sisask

Professor
Board member and senior researcher of ERSI, professor of social health care at Tallinn University, board member of Nõmme Health Clinic. Member and country representative of International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP), member of International Academy of Suicide Research (IASR). Educational background in law (1991, University of Tartu), psychological counselling (2003), public health (MSc 2005, University of Tartu) and sociology (PhD 2011, Tallinn University). Involved in several all-European intervention projects on suicide prevention and mental health promotion (FP7 WE-STAY, FP7 OSPI-Europe, FP7 SEYLE, EAAD, MHPHands, SUPREME, PREDI-NU etc). Author of numerous high-level thematic scientific publications.
