Preliminary findings from the European MENTBEST project show that women in Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Sant Martí report markedly higher rates of depression and anxiety than men. The community-based suicide and depression prevention programme, led locally by Hospital del Mar and partners in Santa Coloma, has now reached the midpoint of its implementation.

Cork / Frankfurt am Main, 12.01.2026 – A landmark scientific article on an evidence-based programme to reduce depression and suicidal behaviour – the Community-Based 4-Level Intervention developed by the European Alliance Against Depression (EAAD) – was published in Nature Mental Health on Friday 9th January 2026.

The Limerick Alliance for Mental Health Support launches a city-wide campaign to raise awareness of depression and encourage people to seek help.

Press Release – iFightDepression has been selected as best practice in the new OECD report, “Mental Health Promotion and Prevention: Best Practices in Public Health” as an effective, accessible, and cost-efficient tool for depression management across countries. iFD reduces depressive symptoms at six weeks and three months compared to an active control group and significantly reduced the duration of depressive episodes.

MENTBEST will design, deliver and validate proven community-based interventions and innovative technologies to prevent and mitigate the mental health challenges associated with dramatic and rapid change in Europe. MENTBEST will focus on five vulnerable groups: migrants/refugees, older people, younger people, long-term unemployed, and those with mental disorders.
